We just celebrated the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord and the conclusion of the Christmas Season. I want to extend to all of you who sent cards and greetings, gifts and best wishes to me for Christmas a very sincere thanks.
Lord Jesus, Come! That acclamation of praise and yearning, of faith and hope, is proclaimed frequently in the season of Advent. It is a time of waiting anew for the mercy of the Lord, a mercy that will be marked in a distinctive way this coming liturgical year by the celebration of a special Jubilee Year of Mercy.
It is with great joy that the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston welcomes the selection of Msgr. Steven Lopes as the first Bishop of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, by His Holiness Pope Francis. This Local Church is grateful to the Holy Father for his personal solicitude in providing a bishop for this relatively new Ordinariate.
My prayers are with the people of France following the horrific attacks in Paris. May our merciful Lord comfort those suffering during this tragic loss of life, and I ask the faithful of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston to join Our Holy Father and people from all over the world in praying for the victims and their families.
