The Vicar for Catholics of African Descent serves the African, African American, and Caribbean Catholic communities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. The Vicar works with Archdiocesan offices and agencies in implementing the mission and goals of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston along with the National Black Catholic Pastoral Plan through collaboration, implementation, advocacy, leadership, and evangelization. The Vicar for Catholics of African Descent provides a voice and representation at the decision-making level within the archdiocesan structure, serves as a vehicle to provide spiritual, cultural, educational, and social development for Catholics of African Descent, identifies the needs, concerns, and issues of these Catholic communities and communicates these needs, concerns, and issues to established Archdiocesan offices and agencies, and coordinates constituency ministry and supports ongoing pastoral ministry.
