Message from Dr. Rick Lopez

Dear Friends,

Whether you are a singer or music lover, I would like to invite you to participate in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston’s Second Annual Summer Sacred Music Choral Festival. This weekend of fellowship and rehearsal will culminate in a performance of Requiem by the British composer John Rutter. With an ecumenical choir of 200 and a full, professional orchestra, this second annual concert is a highlight of the sacred music calendar.

The goal of this program is to enrich the hearts and minds of our participants and listeners by offering a meaningful experience that is designed to build connections within our community through the art of sacred music. In our first year, singers came from across the Greater Houston area, representing approximately 70 churches of all denominations. Please accept and share this invitation with all lovers of sacred music in the greater Houston area!

Truth, goodness, and beauty can be found in John Rutter’s musical setting of the traditional Latin Requiem Mass. This masterpiece, premiered in Dallas in 1985, once again returns to Texas. Befitting such sacred music, this year’s concert will take place at Cypress Creek Christian Community Center’s The Centrum in Spring, Texas.

The rehearsals and performance will be conducted by local composer and choral conductor Gonzalo A. Ramos, Artistic Director of the Bravura Concert Series and the Houston Cecilia Chamber Choir. We eagerly look forward to having you and your fellow church musicians join us for this inspiring annual celebration of sacred music.

Soli Deo gloria,

Dr. R
