What kind of training counts towards elective credit?

1. The conference, seminar, colloquium, course, training, event, or in-service must have been directed toward the individual as an adult learner.

• That is, the individual must have been the intended recipient of the formation, not an adult serving as a team member for formation directed to others.

• Formation of some sort must have been the primary focus and intention of the experience. Experiences that have as a primary purpose planning, team-building, praying, or administration are not generally eligible.

2. The conference, seminar, colloquium, course, training, event, or in-service must have furthered the individual’s formation, knowledge, or understanding in one of the following 3 key areas: theology, catechetical methodology, spirituality.

• Theological formation should be at or above the level of formation previously undertaken so that it truly furthers or deepens one’s level of understanding.

• Catechetical methodology can be considered very broadly. This includes, but is not limited to, the areas specifically mentioned by the Catechetical Directory: “psychology, sociology, pedagogy, the sciences of education, formation, and communication” (no. 146).

• Formation focused on an individual’s own personal spiritual formation should meet the criteria for OEC Prayer credit.

3. Liturgical and devotional prayer experiences that are connected to and integrated into a holistic experience may be counted. Gatherings whose primary purpose or in which the majority of the time is spent in liturgical or devotional prayer are generally not eligible.

4. For experiences lasting five or more continuous hours in a single day, one meal break may be included within the time credited. Other breaks of longer than 15 minutes for meals, fellowship, recreation, or other similar activities are deducted from the overall time credited.

How to add to your CAPERNAUM transcript a training you have taken?

This process is called: "ADD EXTERNAL TRAINING"

Once you are logged in to your CAPERNAUM account, under the "LEARNING" tab, you will find the link to the external training submission form:
