Called by Name: Discerning Marriage
April 27, 2021 at 7:00pm
We know that all called to marriage should take the route of discernment, just like those who felt called to the priesthood or religious life. Every human being created in the image and likeness of God has a vocation. A vocation is not a means or goal to pursue; it is a calling to hear.
· Are you in a relationship and uncertain about the next step?
· Do you need a solid foundation for your marriage preparation?
· Do you need tools to make any future relationship better?
Many times, we hear people asking, “How do I know if he or she is the right one to marry?” People intuitively know that deciding on a life partner is so vital that they cannot afford to make a careless choice or rely on emotions or feelings solely.
So the decision to marry and have a family ought to be the fruit of a vocational process of discernment. We have insights, reflections, and spiritual resources to accompany you in the process. Join me and other participants, dating and engaged couples in this discerning activity that will change your life and equip your relationship for the best transition.
So, with open arms we invite you to participate in this free online mini-retreat.

Civil Aspect of Marriage a Challenge for Even Small Church Ceremonies
The Harris County Clerks Office, which issues marriage licenses, is now seeing couples for marriage licenses but is doing so by appointment only. What does that mean if you planned on having a small church ceremony in the next few weeks? It means you have to get creative.
Marriage licenses issued by any county in Texas are valid in any county in Texas. If you live in Harris County, check neighboring counties to find out if they are open. For example, Galveston County is back in business with both their Galveston Island office and their annex office in League City, now open and issuing marriage licenses. Call the county clerk's office in your neighboring county if your's is presently closed.
Some things to keep in mind when it comes to marriage licenses:
1. A marriage license is good for 90 days
2. A marriage license cannot be used for the first 72 hrs after issuance
3. The 72-hour waiting period is waived for couples who have taken a state-approved marriage education course through the TwoGether in Texas Program. A parish and their program have to be registered with TwoGether in Texas to issue TwoGether in Texas certificates. The archdiocesan Family Life Office is registered, and we have several programs with them.
