Unity Explosion ready to ignite June 15-19
May 23, 2011
HOUSTON — Unity Explosion is celebrating 21 years of a liturgically-focused, faith-based evangelization conference. This explosion of faith among Catholics of African descent will be held June 15 to 19 at the Marriot Westchase, 2900 Briarpark Dr., Houston. The conference theme is “Evangelization...Am I a Witness?” Unity Explosion began as a gathering in 1989 to liturgically recognize, embrace and share the gifts that Roman Catholics of African descent bring to the Universal Church. The mission of the conference is to provide a conference experience that addresses the expressed leadership, ministerial, catechetical, liturgical and evangelization needs of families. For the first time, the 2011 Unity Explosion conference will be fully supported by the dioceses in Region 10 of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and will again be hosted by the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Unity Explosion will open with the Roderick J. Bell Institute for African American Sacred Music on June 15. This two-day institute provides musicians, ministers of music and those interested in music as a ministry with a forum for professional and spiritual growth, as well as networking opportunities. The full conference opens on June 16 with workshops on June 17 and 18. The closing Liturgy is June 19 and is open to the public.
