HOUSTON — The Ordination of Transitional Deacons, held Saturday, May 12, at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, brought eight men to the next step in their journey to the priesthood.

Jose Alonso Gonzalez, Vincent Thinh Duc Tran, David Moses, Justin Cormie, Ricardo Arriola Gonzalez, Ryan Stawaisz, Kingsley Nwoko and Steven Huber, CSB, were each ordained to the Sacred Order of Diaconate through the imposition of hands and the invocation of the Holy Spirit by Auxiliary Bishop George A. Sheltz.

In his homily, Bishop Sheltz recognized the journey of each of the men, pointing out how each came from very different backgrounds and walks of life, with four born in other countries, including Guatemala, Mexico, Nigeria and Vietnam. They all answered the call to serve Christ, and Bishop Sheltz encouraged them to continue to serve others as Christ would.

Their ordination as transitional deacons is one of their final steps before being ordained to the priesthood. †
