Never too soon to prepare for Steps for Students
August 7, 2012
HOUSTON — Runners, walkers and supporters of Catholic education are already gearing up for the eighth annual Steps for Students 5K Run, Feb. 2, 2013.
The event, which was rained out last year, is an annual Archdiocesan-wide event where all school and parish communities come together to support Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. The race’s goal is to raise awareness of the importance of education and provide much-needed resources for schools.
With 59 schools, serving more than 18,000 students, the Archdiocesan network of Catholic Schools is the largest private school system in the state of Texas.
Leslie Barrera, Associate Director of the Archdiocesan Office of Development, said the race is open to all who wish to register.
“Participants may join their Catholic school team, or if they are not running with a school team they can run as individual runners,” she said.
Barrera said all participants have the option to raise funds in support of their school team or, if they are running individually just for fun, to designate their funds to support the Archdiocesan Tuition Assistance Program.
“The Archdiocesan Tuition Assistance Program makes it possible for more students to receive the gift of a Catholic education each year,” she said.
Sponsorships for the event will be available for both a person or company. Sponsorships range from $500 to $15,000.
Volunteer opportunities are also available. Contact the Development Department at 713-652-4417 to see what opportunities are available for school or organization groups.
