Instilling a love for Church
December 20, 2011
Editor’s note: Catholic Schools Spotlight is a series focusing on Archdiocesan schools and their commitment to the mission of the Church — to educate and form the whole person in mind, heart and spirit. Each feature will spotlight a different Archdiocesan school and offer an insight into the school’s community and culture.
Nationally, Catholic high schools have a 99 percent graduation rate and 97 percent of those graduates go on to college. The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston oversees the largest private school system in Texas. More than 18,000 students are educated in the Archdiocese’s 59 Catholic schools, which includes 44 diocesan grade schools, six private elementary schools and nine private high schools.
CONROE — Established in 1958, Sacred Heart Catholic School has served students for over 50 years. Sacred Heart’s mission is to instill a love of Catholic faith and a love of a neighbor through the faith education of students. With a curriculum that includes a school-wide Mass every Friday and religious education daily, Sacred Heart brings faith to life.
Through service projects that attend to the needs of not only the community in Conroe, but also the nation and world, Sacred Heart teaches the guiding light of the Church. Students have collected slippers to comfort the elderly, food to feed the less fortunate and gifts at Christmas time to give to those that may not receive any.
“As a former Sacred Heart student, I am happy to share the same spirit-filled learning environment with my daughters that I had as a child,” said Stephanie Hill, a Sacred Heart graduate.
Recently, the school installed integrated multimedia projectors in every classroom, giving teachers another tool to enhance their teaching capabilities. Students also particiatpe in the ongoing E-4 program — guidance program — that draws from inspiration of the letter of Paul to the Ephesians and his call to “be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ.” The program recongize students for great virtues and each month staff highlight students who demonstrate great virtues. †
