HOUSTON — CHRISTUS Foundation for HealthCare announces its 8th annual Nun Run on Saturday, Oct. 20. This 50-mile, Blue Knight police-escorted motorcycle ride begins at the motherhouse of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, located at Villa de Matel, 6510 Lawndale St., and ends at Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Galveston, 2109 Lockheed St.

The motorcycle ride, which begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m., benefits the children and families of the 16 CHRISTUS school-based clinics. Each clinic provides services such as flu vaccines, health education, screenings and direct health care to students.

“We are very excited to host this event for the eighth year,” Les Cave, President of CHRISTUS Foundation for HealthCare, said. “The money raised from the Nun Run has done so much to help our school-based clinics, allowing us to provide much-needed health care services to students in low-income schools. In the past two years alone we’ve raised over $200,000! This year we are setting a goal of $120,000 and need your help to reach it. Even if you aren’t a rider, you can still show your support by donating money online and helping to keep children healthy.”

Participants in the ride will receive a breakfast, lunch, ride pin and do-rag. At the conclusion of the ride, awards and prizes will be given for the rider from the farthest distance, the youngest and oldest riders, the club with the most riders and more.

Early registration is open now until Oct. 10 for $35 per person, or after Oct. 10 for $50 per person. Sidecars receive free registration for escorting a nun to Galveston.

Non-riders can still support the Nun Run by donating to the cause. For registration, donations and the event schedule, visit www.christusfoundation.org or call 713-652-3100.

The event is sponsored by CHRISTUS Foundation for HealthCare, the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, The Blue Knights, JSC Space Riders and Retreads Motorcycle Club.
