March 10, 2015
San José Clinic’s eighth annual Art With Heart fundraiser and auction will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, at the Corinthian, 202 Fannin St. The event raises vital funds to help those in the community with limited access to health care.
During the event, the clinic will be honoring Houston Methodist with the Portrait of Compassion award for their long-standing dedication and support.
“Houston Methodist has long been a partner of the healthcare and safety net communities of our area, including San José Clinic,” Paule Anne Lewis, president and CEO of San José Clinic. “For over 20 years, Houston Methodist has specifically contributed to the mission of San José Clinic by providing operating support, in-kind and diagnostic lab services, academic program rotations through the Clinic and more.”
The Portrait of Compassion recognizes an individual or organization who displays extraordinary compassion towards persons who are uninsured and left behind by the traditional healthcare system.
“Honorees exemplify San José Clinic’s mission and dedication to reaching out to those who are struggling to access healthcare,” Lewis said. Previous honorees include Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, Retired Bishop Vincent M. Rizzotto, the Charity Guild of Catholic Women and Phil Morabito of Pierpont Communications.
Connie Dyer, member of the board of directors at Houston Methodist, San José Clinic’s history of removing health care barriers for the uninsurable is inspiring.
“As a partner of the clinic, Houston Methodist has had a unique opportunity to watch the clinic grow and thrive for more than two decades of their long history,” she said. “It is an honor to support the Clinic’s worthy mission.”
Cathy Easter, senior vice president of community benefits at Houston Methodist, said, “Houston Methodist has been a dedicated partner of the San José Clinic for more than 20 years, and we are pleased to be a part of this event supporting its vital mission.”
Art with Heart will feature museum-quality artwork in various media by selected artists and unique jewelry and photography from local artists and celebrated jewelers.
In addition, the event will also include big board auction items such as a private dinner party by award-winning culinary expert, Jackson and Company; four nights in an ocean-view casita at the beautiful Four Seasons in Punta Mita, Mexico, plus airfare and extra spending money; a culinary tour of Houston; a tropical getaway; and a city-life weekend getaway at The Retreat at Artesian Lakes which includes spa treatments, a Billy Joel concert and a show at Theater Under the Stars.
Larry Massey, former Board Chairman of the clinic, said Art With Heart began after he was invited to tour San José Clinic’s old location and noticed the beautiful children’s artwork they had displayed throughout the building.
“I suggested that an art show would be a great fundraiser for the clinic, as well as a fun and upscale way to invite the community to come learn more about the mission,” he said. “Together with Barb Heilman and Didi Garza, we put together the first Art with Heart in 2007 and it was a hit. God has truly blessed its continuation. Art with Heart is now a beautiful event which reflects the vision of the original concept.”
