Archdiocesan Oct. 14 jubilee celebration honors clergy, religious anniversaries
September 25, 2018
HOUSTON — Archbishop Emeritus Joseph A. Fiorenza will offer Mass at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, located at 9900 Stella Link Rd. in Houston, in honor of clergy and religious who are 2018 jubilarians within the Archdiocese.
All are welcome to attend the celebration, which will be Sunday, Oct. 14, at 4 p.m. Mass will be followed by a reception in Prefontaine Hall, generously sponsored by the Serra Club.
This year, 40 priests and consecrated women are celebrating 25, 50, 60 and even 75 years of ordination or religious vows. The 2018 jubilarians are reflective of the international and diverse dimensions of our Archdiocese.
“The lives of our consecrated women and men give joyful witness to their generous and ongoing responses to God’s call and God’s love,” Sister Heloise Cruzat, OP, vicar for religious at the Archdiocese, said.
The jubilarians, who in total have given 1,645 years of faithful service and prayer, include Archdiocesan and religious priests and members of five congregations of women religious. They represent parish and catechetical ministry, congregational leadership, educational ministry, work for peace, justice and care for immigrants, health care and nursing, and much more.
This year Sister Mary Theresa Pham, O.C.D, a Discalced Carmelite, celebrates her silver jubilee. The Discalced Carmelites offer a Novena of Prayer each year for our jubilarians, and are willing to hold Galveston-Houston close in prayer even after their move to San Antonio.
“Our Archdiocesan celebration is held at a parish site in order to make possible the participation of all who desire to pray and rejoice with the jubilarians,” Sister Cruzat said. “A special invitation is extended to Archdiocesan youth and young adults, to those whose lives have been enriched over the years by the ministry of our jubilarians and other religious, and to all who desire an opportunity to celebrate with consecrated men and women to hear their inspirational stories.”
