Archbishop Fiorenza honored at annual CHRISTUS luncheon

HOUSTON — CHRISTUS Foundation for HealthCare honored Archbishop Emeritus Joseph A. Fiorenza, D.D., with their Legacy award at their 11th annual awards luncheon March 24 at the Hilton Americas – Houston.

More than 800 attendees, a record number for the event, honored the Archbishop, who recently celebrated his 60th year in the priesthood.

“He’s always seeking justice. He’s advocating love, he’s advocating acceptance and forgiveness,” said Les Cave, president of Christus Foundation for HealthCare. “His leadership over the last 60-plus years, for some popular causes and some that weren’t so popular, has inspired us all.”

Co-chairs for the luncheon included Sister Kevina Keating, CCVI, Raye G. White, Kari and Sean Tracey and Anna Marie and Harold Hidalgo Sr. 

“I’m deeply grateful for your kindness,” Archbishop Fiorenza said. “... the fact that this Legacy Award connects in a very beautiful way to the Sisters of Charity Congregation makes me deeply, deeply happy and proud to receive it...”

The event also included entertainment by the Emmy-award-winning stand-up comedian and actor Bob Newhart, who has appeared in numerous popular television shows, including the Bob Newhart Show, Newhart and most recently as Professor Proton in The Big Bang Theory.
