‘Washed away’: Imelda stirs up painful memories of Harvey after Huffman parish floods again

The floodwaters didn’t care Hurricane Harvey had flooded the parish, a community of more than 650 families, two years ago. Imelda brought six to eight inches of water into the parish buildings while drenching the entire parish campus with several feet of water. But because of Harvey, parish leaders knew what to do.

Offering ex-offenders a ‘hand up’ for a new lease on life

Men and women newly released from incarceration, if left unaided, could eventually return to a life of violence and crime on the streets to survive, possibly even returning to prison. By providing the compassionate love of Christ through a “hand up” approach instead of giving them a “hand out,” they can make a better transition back into society and lead productive lives as citizens.

This year, we are celebrating two separate but complementary mission events. The first one is the designation of an “Extraordinary Month of Mission” by Pope Francis. He has asked us to renew our missionary awareness and commitment in prayer and action, as we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Apostolic Letter Maximum Illud of Pope Benedict V.
