Pope Benedict XVI, addressing more than 10,000 pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square on March 14, said, “it was with Mary that Jesus’ earthly life began, and it was with her that the Church took its first steps… she discreetly followed her Son’s journey during His public life, even unto the foot of the cross. Then, with silent prayer, she continued to follow the progress of the Church.”

Social Balance: From the pew to the public square

From time to time I am asked whether I consider myself a Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative. To wit, I typically reply, “I am a Roman Catholic.” Usually this results in a baffled expression on the part of the one making the inquiry, until I explain a bit further. Another question that is sometimes asked by fellow Catholics, “Who should I vote for?”

When Frank Tate suffered a spell of gout a couple of years back, he knew he needed to see a doctor. Only trouble was he had neither a regular doctor nor health insurance. Fortunately, Tate, an Olympic boxing gold medalist and now a boxing and sports trainer, had a client who told him about a gem of a clinic for the uninsured.

VIRTUS keeps the ‘promise alive’ to protect children

What else can we do to keep all children safe? That pertinent question is answered in VIRTUS “Keeping the Promise Alive,” a refresher program for “Protecting God’s Children” for adults, which is required training for all parish and school employees and related ministry volunteers who took “Protecting God’s Children” in the years 2003 to 2005.
