Family Life ministry serves with a heart of mercy

The purpose for Pope Francis calling for a Year of Mercy this December is to allow the grace of God’s unconditional love and genuine mercy to come alive around the world. In several papal addresses and at the World Meeting of Families Congress in Philadelphia, the Holy Father emphasized the importance of bringing God’s healing grace to families, the “sanctuary of life and love,” who sometimes are broken and hurting.

Donation to Archdiocesan Archives highlights American Archives Month

On April 21, 1936, a crowd of more than 100,000 converged on the San Jacinto Battleground near La Porte. They came to attend a Pontifical Mass commemorating the battle that took place there 100 years earlier, part of a year-long celebration of the Texas Centennial. The victory that General Sam Houston’s army won that day helped Texas gain its independence from Mexico.

Weeks after visit, Pope Francis's message still moves Texas faithful

During Pope Francis' visit to the United States for the 2015 World Meeting of Families (WMOF), from Sept. 22 to 27, a message of unity still resonates with those who attended and those who were able to stream his homilies and speeches online. Pope Francis's simple message that everyone matters and can contribute something to humanity has been the main takeaway for several attendees at WMOF.

Inspired by mercy, hospital chaplain serves with reverence, love

Before becoming director at Catholic Chaplain Corps (CCC) for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, Father Eugene Cagoco, DS, was assigned to Texas Children’s Hospital for three years and six months. He then served as pastor of St. Matthew the Evangelist Catholic Church in Houston for two years.
