Texas Catholics dedicate resources to the restoration of Blessed Shrine

In the Vatican Gardens, situated on a hilltop over-looking Rome, lies a very special shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe. The shrine, a gift from Mexico to Pope Pius XII, depicts Juan Diego wearing a vestment revealing the sacred image of the virgin as she appeared to him, and kneeling before Juan Diego is the Franciscan Bishop Juan de Zumaraga bowing down as a witness to the miracle of the beautiful, sacred image of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

June 7 Corpus Christi Collection benefits St. Mary’s Seminary

The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston continues to prepare the men who will shepherd the city’s rapidly growing 1.4 million Catholics at St. Mary’s Seminary in Memorial. On the weekend of the Feast of Corpus Christi (June 6 to 7), the local faithful will have the opportunity to directly support Archdiocesan seminarians with the Corpus Christi Collection.

Tiny diary gives insight to Bishop Gallagher’s 1892 Rome trip

A recent donation to the Archdiocesan Archives might not look all that interesting on the outside, but this gift from the Dominican Sisters of Houston is something unique. It is a small, palm-sized diary that chronicles a trip Bishop Nicholas Gallagher made to Rome in the summer of 1892, for his “Ad Limina Apostolorum” visit.

Hundreds attend two-mile Way of the Cross

On Good Friday, Catholics from all across Houston participated in the sixth annual Way of the Cross, processing in reverent silence from the University of St. Thomas (UST) campus to the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in downtown Houston. Led by the cross, and welcomed by Archbishop Emeritus Joseph A. Fiorenza at the Co-Cathedral, women and men religious, priests, and hundreds of lay people participated in the journey, which spans just over two miles.
