CASTILLO: Confession - Frequent encounters with Christ

It is very common for good people to come to me and say, “I don’t feel very close to God, and I don’t know what to do.” My first response is usually to ask, “How long has it been since your last Confession?”

CIESIELSKI: A spirituality for the end of life

Last week, as I cradled in my hands the receptacle with my brother Dominic’s cremated remains, I pondered his life in the brevity of human existence – a “puff of smoke” that is here today and gone tomorrow (James 4:14). His 67 years of earthly life used up, taken by cancer; he was now with our heavenly Father.

ROMAN-PAVAJEAU: Family - What to learn during Lent?

In one of these Lent season’s Gospel readings, Jn. 8:21-30, Jesus was clear to say: “You belong to what is below, I belong to what is above. You belong to this world, but I do not belong to this world. That is why I told you that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I AM, you will die in your sins.”

12 Things Pope Francis is telling Young People (and others, too)

On March 29, Pope Francis signed his new apostolic exhortation — called “Christus Vivit,” or “Christ Lives” in English — inside of The Basilica of the Holy House during a visit to Loreto on Italy’s coastline. His reflections of the 2018 Synod of Bishops on Young people, the Faith and Vocational discernment, found in the exhortation, come nearly six months after the landmark event began.

Lent: Pause, acknowledge, improve, act

Lent is not merely a season of mourning or sorrow; those words are too simplistic to capture the complexity of who we are today. Rather, this is a season of awareness — not only of what we have and have not done, but of our heritage that must give way to a renewed culture.
