Interfaith memorial service held for homeless who died on Houston streets
The names ring out, “David Porter, Thomas Myers, Diana Rodriguez…” Mostly men in the mix, but several women, of all races, including Asian. They are among 60-plus homeless people who died in the streets of Houston in 2018 remembered Nov. 29 at an Interfaith Homeless Memorial Service.

Defending all ‘day and night’: Annual Firefighters Mass honors firefighters for their service
Archbishop Emeritus Joseph Fiorenza thanked firefighters at a Mass Nov. 25 honoring their service in protecting residents and their property as well as charitable work, including collecting toys for children at Christmas.

Quality education draws sponsors to Steps for Students
’Tis the season for charitable giving! One of the largest events in our Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston is Steps for Students. This 5K walk/run is a celebratory race that allows the Archdiocese’s 59 Catholic schools to raise funds while also making a wonderful show of support for Catholic education in downtown Houston.

Legacy of faith bears fruit as Conroe parish welcomes new sanctuary
Looking at the altar, Thelma Kidonakis watched Daniel Cardinal DiNardo elevate the Eucharist during the Mass of Dedication for the parish’s newly built church sanctuary on Nov. 8. Kidonakis, with the hundreds of other parishioners who filled the new pews and made it standing room only, attended the first Mass in the sanctuary.
