Pope Francis appoints Houston scientist to Pontifical Academy for Life

Pope Francis appointed Dr. Mauro Ferrari, president and CEO of Houston Methodist Research Institute, to serve on the Pontifical Academy for Life for the next five years. The research scientist is working to bring Academy members to visit Houston for a palliative care conference on end-of-life issues.

It is my reflection, and many historians, that the year 1968 was the most devastating and disfiguring year in modern history for our nation. The year was engulfed with some of the darkest, most solemn, and most catastrophic events in the annals of our history. Storm-delayed Shepherd’s Cup Golf Classic set for April 18
