More than 1,000 Expected at Annual Asian Mass, Sept.27

Witness more than 1,000 Asian Catholics celebrate their diversity in culture and unity in Christ at the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston's 14th annual Asian Mass this Sunday, Sept. 27 at 3 p.m.

The gathering will draw Catholics of Chinese, Filipino, Indonesian, Indian, Korean and Vietnamese heritage to the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in downtown Houston. Participants will wear their formal, native attire to the event. Daniel Cardinal DiNardo will celebrate the Mass.

WHAT: 14th annual Asian Mass of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

WHERE: The Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1111 St. Joseph Parkway, Houston

WHEN: 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 27

DURATION: 1.5 to 2 hours (For interviews with participants, please arrive at the end of Mass)

VISUALS:

  • Participants of Chinese, Filipino, Indonesian, Indian, Korean and Vietnamese ancestry will attend in their native attire. A procession of representatives of these cultures will begin the celebration.

  • Non-obstructive photography and general videotaping (b-roll) is only allowed before and at the end of the Mass. No photography or videotaping will be permitted during the Mass.

The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston serves 1.5 million Catholics in 10 counties. It is the largest Roman Catholic diocese in Texas and the 11th largest in the United States.
