Funeral Mass for Father John Robbins, pastor of St. Anne Church, Dec. 23

HOUSTON — Father John Robbins, pastor of St. Anne Church since 2000 and a Basilian priest for 37 years, died Dec. 19 after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. Daniel Cardinal DiNardo issued this statement on the death of Father Robbins:

"I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of Fr. Robbins on Saturday. He loved the people of St. Anne's, his Basilian community, his priesthood and the Catholic Church. Father Robbins was known throughout the Archdiocese for his attentive care of his parishioners and their needs. He brought them closer to God through his preaching and teaching of the Gospel.

During his brave fight with prostate cancer, Father Robbins taught us all to have faith in life after death, a lesson taught by word and action. Father Robbins accepted the Lord's invitation to come and rest with Him. Our farewell to him is expressed in our own belief in the resurrection of the body and life everlasting."

Cardinal DiNardo will celebrate the Funeral Mass for Father Robbins on Dec. 23 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2140 Westheimer. Cameras will be allowed to shoot video from the back of the church during the opening procession only. After the entrance procession, cameras will not be allowed in the church.
