Catholic liturgical conference in Houston to hold collection for Haiti tonight
HOUSTON - At a 6:30 p.m. Mass at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart tonight, participants in the Southwest Liturgical Conference's Study Week will take up a collection to assist the earthquake victims in Haiti.
Daniel Cardinal DiNardo is the celebrant at tonight's Mass.
The Southwest Liturgical Conference Study Week is a Catholic liturgical conference held annually at different dioceses of the region. Catholics from Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Utah, Wyoming and Texas are participating in the conference.
Contributions to tonight's collection will go to Catholic Relief Services, a Catholic international organization that addresses global humanitarian needs.
Cardinal DiNardo has also asked all parishes in the Archdiocese to hold a special collection this weekend, Jan. 16 -17, to provide relief for the Haitian people.
WHAT: Tonight, Southwest Liturgical Conference participants will take up a collection for the earthquake victims in Haiti. Daniel Cardinal DiNardo is scheduled to celebrate the Mass.
WHERE: The Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1111 St. Joseph Parkway, Houston
WHEN: 6 p.m. – Daniel Lizarraga, regional coordinator for Catholic Relief Services, will be available for interviews at the Co-Cathedral; 6:30 p.m. – Mass will begin.
VISUALS: Non-obstructive photography and general videotaping (b-roll) at certain locations inside the Co-Cathedral are permitted during Mass.
