Golden year
Archdiocese to honor 150 couples marking their 50th wedding anniversaries

HOUSTON – About 150 Catholic couples celebrating their golden anniversaries this year will gather at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart at 3 p.m. on Sept. 5 to pray together and renew their vows.

Couples married in 1960 have registered for the annual event, sponsored in part by the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston's Office of Family Life Ministry.

This year, the Mass is also co-sponsored by the Archdiocesan Office of Aging. "The Blessings of Age: A Jubilee Celebration" will honor not only couples with 50th wedding anniversaries in 2010, but also older adults in the Catholic community. The Mass will recognize couples who are celebrating longevity in marriage, as well as senior adults (ages 60 and up) who are celebrating longevity in life and faith.

This is the 48th year the Archdiocese has held a Mass for Catholic couples celebrating milestone jubilees. On Sept. 19, the Archdiocese will also host a Mass for couples marking their silver (25th) anniversaries.

WHAT: "The Blessings of Age: A Jubilee Celebration," an Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston Mass honoring couples celebrating their 50th anniversaries, as well as older adults in the Catholic faith community.

WHEN: Sunday, Sept. 5 at 3 p.m. The bilingual Mass will last until 4:30 p.m.

WHERE: Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1111 St. Joseph Parkway, Houston

DID YOU KNOW: About 150 couples married in 1960 will celebrate their anniversaries at this Mass. Collectively, the couples registered for the event represent 7,500 years of matrimony.

Non-obstructive photography and general videotaping (b-roll) at certain locations inside the Co-Cathedral are permitted during Mass. Please contact Jenny Faber, Archdiocesan Communications Director, at 713-652-8223 for details on locations for photography inside the Co-Cathedral.
