A blessing from Daniel Cardinal DiNardo and the beautiful peeling bells of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart sent almost 10,000 runners and participants of all ages as they took part in the eighth annual Steps for Students 5K Run/Walk and the David K. Guite Memorial 1K Family Fun Run. The event benefits the network of 59 Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. The Run/Walk was held on Saturday, February 2, at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
Students, faculty, and families from all 59 schools took part in Steps for Students raising awareness of the value of Catholic education, assisting schools with raising funds directly, and supporting the Archdiocesan Tuition Assistance Program through underwriting sponsorships.
“It is an immense joy each year to see the whole school community come together along with our many friends and supporters for Steps for Students,” said Sister Kevina Keating, CCVI, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese.
The 5K event is sponsored by Yellow Cab and Taxis Fiesta. The David K. Guite Memorial 1K is sponsored by St. Joseph Medical Center. “We would also like to extend a very special thanks to our Co-chairs, Diana Dávila Martínez and Román Martínez, and to our many faithful helpers and volunteers. We could not do it without them and their immense commitment,” continued Sister Keating.
The run is USA Track and Field sanctioned event. For more information, visit www.steps4students.org.
