U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on definition of marriage
June 26, 2013
Below is the statement from the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston regarding the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on the definition of marriage:
The Supreme Court’s decision today to recognize federally same-sex marriage in states that provide it is a grave injustice that undermines the unique meaning of marriage.
While the overall decision is disappointing, it is fortunate the Court did not hold that our country’s Constitution requires a redefinition of marriage.
The Catholic Church, along with many other faiths, continues to teach that marriage is, uniquely, the joining of one man and one woman in a lifelong, loving union that is open to children, ordered for the good of those children and the spouses.
