Statement on the Anniversary of Pope Francis' Election
March 13, 2014
Pope Francis became the Vicar of Christ a year ago and what an exciting time it has been. Pope Francis has reinvigorated the Catholic Church and her faithful. In his humble but sure way, he has reminded the world of the joy of the Gospel, of our redemption through Jesus Christ.
And Pope Francis’ ongoing call to all of us to lead lives that reflect Christ’s generosity and mercy, to love and serve our neighbors, is even more immediate this Lenten season.
I join with my fellow Catholics in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and around the world, and all people of goodwill, in praying for Pope Francis and his ministry as he continues to draw us closer to each other and to our Lord.
