A total of 78 seminarians from 14 dioceses studying at St. Mary Seminary began their academic year with a Mass at the seminary chapel this week. (The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston has 51 seminarians studying for the priesthood at seminaries in Houston, Dallas, outside New Orleans and Rome.)
Daniel Cardinal DiNardo presided at the Mass of the Holy Spirit and the Rite of Candidacy, Aug. 15. The Houston seminary has 78 seminarians enrolled this year.
Cardinal preached on the model of Mary on the Feast of the Assumption.
Faculty, staff and seminarians' families and loved ones also attended the Mass.
Father Trung Nguyen, rector of St. Mary Seminary, led faculty in their pledge of commitment to the seminary and the Church.
Faculty and vocation directors from across the Archdiocese concelebrated the Mass of the Holy Spirit.
