Prayers for victims of fatal shootout in College Station

August 14, 2012

Along with the entire Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, I am deeply saddened by the news of the fatal shootings in College Station on Aug. 13. Our tears and prayers go out to the victims, families and loved ones of those impacted by this tragedy in Texas. We mourn their loss.

In the last several weeks, our nation has seen the loss of many lives due to violence. I ask Archdiocesan pastors and all the faithful of our local Church to pray that we may help build greater communities of peace, which are nurtured through a clear commitment to respect for life. Respect for human life is the starting point for confronting a culture of violence.

May we follow the way of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, in becoming peacemakers in our homes and on our streets.
