On June 24, Daniel Cardinal DiNardo celebrated the Mass of the Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist at Holy Family Parish in Galveston (at Sacred Heart Church). In attendance were many Italian Americans who share a special devotion to John the Baptist, a long-standing tradition that originated from their roots in Italy.

After the Mass (pictured above), Cardinal DiNardo and the pastor of Holy Family Parish, Father E.J. Stein, led a procession around the church that included hymns and prayers to their patron, as well as fireworks. The shrine of St. John the Baptist was carried by members of the Italian American group that sponsored the annual celebration.
