Father Steenson: "An effective, kind and joyful leader"

January 2, 2012

Daniel Cardinal DiNardo issued this brief statement on Pope Benedict's appointment of Father Jeffrey Steenson, a Catholic priest serving in Houston, to be the new Ordinary for the first U.S. Ordinariate to for Anglican groups and clergy who wish to become Catholic:

"Father Steenson is a wise and prudent administrator who will bring a vibrant intellect and humility to his role as head of this ordinariate. He has a very deep sense of the meaning of Church. Father Steenson is not only an outstanding patristic scholar, but a priest with a strong pastoral sense and an abiding respect for all people. He will surely be an effective, kind and joyful leader who will love and guide God's people with the attitude of Christ."
Father Steenson teaches patristics at St. Mary's Seminary and assists at St. Cyril of Alexandria Church in Houston.

Cardinal DiNardo will make additional remarks at a news conference at Our Lady of Walsingham Catholic Church, an Anglican use parish in the Archdiocese, this morning in Houston.
