Church agencies challenge HHS for violating religious freedom

May 21, 2012

In light of the news that 43 dioceses, hospitals, schools and church agencies have filed lawsuits around the nation on May 21 saying the HHS mandate violates religious freedom, Daniel Cardinal DiNardo offered the following statement:

"The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston is fully supportive of the litigation filed today. It makes clear that this is an issue of religious liberty.

The lawsuits filed by the Dioceses of Dallas and Fort Worth effectively articulate the issues and reflect the position of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Therefore, we are evaluating whether a separate lawsuit filed by this Archdiocese will be of further value in achieving our mutual goals."
