Keeping the Promise Alive refresher training

VIRTUS Keeping the Promise Alive (KPA) 1st Refresher Program

Keeping the Promise Alive is the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston 1st mandatory refresher course that began in August 2011. The material covered in KPA is designed to identify and reinforce the lessons of the original "Protecting God's Children" program by clarifying some of the more challenging aspects of the sessions and strengthening the participants' ability to recognize risky behavior by adults in their environments and take action to intervene in potentially threatening situations. Part of the re-certification process will include a criminal background check on both employees and volunteers.

As a condition of employment and ongoing employment, all employees over the age of 18 within the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston are required to attend a KPA workshop. Once their PGC 5-year anniversary date has been met, the employee will have 3 months to complete their KPA training.

In order to continue volunteer service, all volunteers who work in any capacity with or around children, the elderly, and adults with special needs must attend a KPA workshop. Once their PGC 5-year anniversary date has been met, the volunteer will have 12 months from that date to attend a KPA workshop.

To pre-register for an upcoming “Keeping the Promise Alive” workshop, the individual must log into their active VIRTUS account.  If your VIRTUS account is inactive you will not be allowed to attend or pre-register for a KPA workshop.
