WELCOME!
In a world that has many things competing for our time and attention, it is important to be aware of God’s work in our lives. For this purpose, I wish to invite each of you to participate in an exciting and dynamic evangelization conference to take place in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

The theme of this conference is “Responding to the Call to Holiness in Today’s World” (or simply “Call to Holiness”) and it will be held on September 11-12, 2009. The George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston is our venue site as we hope for a great participation from many of you!

As you prepare spiritually for this conference, remember the example of St. Paul who evangelized with enthusiasm and urgency to a world in need of God’s mercy and love. In the words of St. Paul,

“May the eyes of your hearts be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope that belongs to His call, what are the riches of glory in His inheritance among the holy ones.” (Ephesians 1:18)

Come, see, and experience for yourselves the life-changing grace of the Holy Spirit as we gather to deepen our faith and give praise to God. It is my hope that this conference will transform your hearts and enliven your mind to God’s Call to Holiness.

Sincerely in Christ,

Daniel Cardinal DiNardo
Archbishop of Galveston-Houston

EVANGELIZATION COMMISSION

With our Archbishop, Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, the Evangelization Commission is proud to bring to you this exciting and dynamic program as part of its evangelization efforts. The organizing committee is composed primarily of volunteers working under our direction in serving in the spirit and footsteps of Christ and the great evangelizers.

In particular the commission's work is in answering Jesus' call “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations” (Mt 28:19). The missions are to…

  • to be an advocate of evangelization
  • to develop, oversee, evaluate evangelization initiatives
  • to foster a collaborative effort to maintain an evangelizing focus in all that we do

MISSION STATEMENT

In a world with so many things competing for our attention, we want to raise the level of consciousness about God's work in our lives as a means for a new evangelization in the every day life of people and communities.

ORGANIZING TEAM

The world needs the witness of the Church to help people be open to hear God's call, to have the wisdom to discern God's call, and above all else, to have the courage to answer God's Call. To do our part in fostering this pursuit of holiness, a committee of clergy and lay leaders has taken the lead in planning The Call to Holiness conference-symposium, an event that will stir the hearts and minds of the local faithful and encourage each of us to say “yes!” to God's call.

THE LOGO

Call to Holiness logoThe logo is composed of a cross behind the Holy Spirit dove that is emerging in a Pentecostal theme. The cross is symbolic of Christ's passion and divinity. The emerging Holy Spirit dove represents of being sent as during Pentecost giving us the Mission of the Church-Evangelization. The Holy Spirit dove comes from the occulus stain glass of the Co-Cathedral symbolic of the heart of this local church.

Two identities are captured: the identity of the conference and of the Gifts of God captured in spirit of the organizing body. “Call to Holiness”- the identity of the conference. “CHRISTUS-EVANGELIUM-ECCELSIA” - the elements of the mission - Christ-Gospel-Church. Along with this we have two stars representing the roots of this evangelization in Texas.

The color of red is representative of the passion, gold of the divinity of the Holy Trinity, and blue representative of Our Lady, Mary. They are also the colors of the Archdiocesan shield.

CONFERENCE PRAYER

(adapted USCCB vocation prayer)

O Lord,
help us know your will for us.
Let your light shine in the depths
of our hearts that we may know
what you want us to do with our lives.
Help us believe that you have
a special plan for us.

Lord, we know we pass through
this life only once;
help us decide how you want us
to make a difference.

Like our Blessed Mother, give us the wisdom to hear your voice and the courage to answer your Call to Holiness.

Above all, give us peace
of mind and heart.
We offer this prayer in the name
of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

ORACIÓN DE LA CONFERENCIA

(adapted USCCB vocation prayer )

Señor,
ayúdanos a conocer Tu voluntad

esta vida sólo una vez;
Ayudanos a decidir como podemos
servirte mejor.

Amen.
