May 29, 2012

Join Auxiliary Bishop George A. Sheltz at a public Mass of Thanksgiving tonight at Christ the Redeemer Church, 11507 Huffmeister Road in Houston. The Mass begins at 7 p.m. at the parish, where Bishop Sheltz had once served as pastor.

The newly ordained bishop will also be celebrating other public Masses in June. The public is welcome to attend the following Masses with Bishop Sheltz at these parishes.
  • June 4 at 7 p.m. at Annunciation Church, 1618 Texas Ave. in Houston (the parish Bishop Sheltz was ordained to the priesthood)
  • June 5 at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Parish, 34th and Ave. K in Galveston.
Bishop Sheltz spent 36 of his 40-plus years as a parish priest at Catholic churches around the Archdiocese and was educated at Annunciation Catholic School, St. Thomas High School, the University of St. Thomas and St. Mary's Seminary – all located in Houston. He was ordained a bishop May 2 at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in downtown Houston.

Ministry Spotlight
Family Life

The Office of Family Life Ministry exists to aid parishes in meeting the family needs of their parishioners. Training and education is provided in the areas of marriage preparation, marriage and family enrichment, natural family planning, parenting education and ministry to the divorced, separated and widowed and their children. The Office also advocates a family perspective in all ministries and provides education and leadership training for schools, parish organizations and other groups which seek to improve their understanding of today’s family realities.
