Echoing the Word: All things work together for good
5/8/2012
My favorite verse is Romans 8:28 — “For we know that all things work together for good, for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.” This was the theme of a women’s retreat I attended nearly 20 years ago, and I have used this as my life’s “theme” ever since. Read More

In His Light: ‘They Stand Tall and Proud, Yet Not Overbearing’
5/8/2012
I recently viewed the movie "The Help" based on the novel by Kathryn Stockett. Her narrative chronicles the unique dynamics between black maids and their white families in Jackson, Miss., in 1963 at the inception of the American Civil Rights Movement.

Echoing the Word: ‘A Place for All’ exceeds all expectations
4/10/2012
The statement that “children want to do the right thing, and if they can do well, they will” set the initial tone for A Place for All. Offered for the first time, this innovative training consisted of six monthly sessions that focused on classroom management philosophy and methodology. Participants learned that it is both more productive and better respects the dignity of the person to be curious about an individual’s behavior than to judge it as a character flaw. Read More

The sanctification and holiness of the family
3/27/2012
I was born in Vietnam shortly after the fall of Saigon. I was too small to know the terrible consequences of war. My very first childhood memory was rather a very warm experience. I was only about 3 or 4 years old but I recall it very vividly. I was playing in the front yard when suddenly I noticed a strange man coming into the house. My mother and my grandfather came out to meet him with great joy. Then, my mother pointed me out to him. He then picked me up into his arms and lifted me in the air. He was my father, whom I did not know. He worked as an officer in the air force in the South Vietnam Government and when the communist invaded the South, they took him away to prison and re-education camp for a few years.

Haciendo Eco de la Palabra de Dios: Desafío fundamentalista 4
3/27/2012
Echoing the word: Transforming our hearts, minds and ways of living this Lent
3/12/2012
On Ash Wednesday, my 13-year old daughter and I had a discussion about fasting and abstinence, as it related to the Lenten season and to living the Christian life. She announced that she could not imagine her life without eating meat. Rather than trying to convince her otherwise, I decided to examine our family’s daily opportunities to help transform our hearts, minds and ways of living to be more like Christ. Read More

Neither rain, nor sleet, nor hail, nor snow can keep … wait, that is the Post Office’s motto – but it might as well have been the slogan for this year’s Archdiocesan Junior High Youth Rally. Read More
