Archbishop Fiorenza - St. Mary Seminary Burse

In honor of Archbishop Emeritus Joseph A. Fiorenza's 50 years of priesthood and 25 years as bishop, the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston established a burse in his name, which will benefit St. Mary Seminary.

According to retired Auxiliary Bishop Vincent M. Rizzotto, "The burse has a double purpose to it. One is to help defray the cost of the education of seminarians who are studying for the priesthood, and to honor Archbishop Fiorenza's faithful service as priest and bishop."

The burse will be a fund of money which will be invested, and the interest from this burse will help offset the cost of the operations of St. Mary Seminary here in Houston and the costs of training, educating and forming seminarians of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

The Archdiocese encourages individuals as well as parishes, schools, and lay organizations to make a contribution to the burse.

The burse was presented to Archbishop Fiorenza during his Jubilee Mass, Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at 7:30 p.m., at Reliant Arena in Houston. The special homilist for the Mass was Bishop Wilton D. Gregory, then-president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
