Retreat as a Priority for Today’s Laity

“I suggest that more of our people avail themselves of the opportunity of a yearly retreat, either as part of a parish group, a family retreat or a personal day apart from our frenzied lives to allow the Word of God to address you during a time of quiet and solitude. More than ever the quality of our friendship with the Lord demands a time apart to rest with Him a little and to be refreshed by His Call, as recorded in the Gospel of St. Matthew, Chapter 11 29-30: ‘Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy burdened, and I will give you rest…. For my yoke is easy and my burden light ‘” ~ Archbishop Daniel Cardinal Di Nardo (Texas Catholic Herald, January 19, 2007)

Annual or Periodic Retreats are part of the fundamental need of our Catholic community.

This is evident by the use of Retreat by Christ and currently by the requirement for each religious to make personal Retreats on an annual basis, there should be no question that Retreat is “VITAL” to conditioning our Faith for intimacy with God and for living our secular lives
