Kindness is like a garden of blessings, and almsgiving endures forever.
Sirach 40:17

The Value of Volunteering

When you see someone in distress, your first impulse is to help. When you see a community need, you want to do something. The question is how to translate that generous spirit into action; the answer is, volunteer.

Like many organizations we have a person that works with and for volunteers, and can help you choose the right spot for you. For more information at 713.741.8708.

Testimonials

Volunteering is a way to give, to do it you need to find your own way to serve. Try to fill a need, overcome obstacles, and then testify that in giving we receive. We find in serving others, we serve God!

Here are many testimonials from people around America that share their talents and blessings with others:
Writer and cartoonist Ben Wicks was concerned about the number of Canadians handicapped by poor reading skills. He wrote a book explaining how parents can help their children learn to read. Financial help from businesses and organizations enabled him to distribute two million free copies.

Margaret Edwards of Rockcliffe Park, Ontario, had a large family and almost no free time, but she wanted to do something for others. She decided to have tea once a week with someone lonely. Now that she has more time, she often cares for a child while the mother shops and tutors neighborhood children. Small everyday kindnesses can mean a lot.

The two young daughters of Robby and April Roberson were killed when a speeding boat crashed into theirs. To save other lives, the couple started an association to lobby for state legislation and programs to educate boaters. Thanks to their work, Alabama passed a law that establishes a minimum age for boat operators, requires licensing, and applies drunk-driving laws to boats. Other states are following suit.

There is a lot you can do for others in many ways. We would like to invite you to share your talents and time working with and for families; to see some of our FLM testimonials, click on the video links below.
