Board Overview

By a decree dated February 27, 1980, Bishop John L. Morkovsky established a Board of Education for the (then) Diocese of Galveston-Houston and ratified its Constitution.

The Board is an advisory body whose purpose is to provide policy direction for the educational programs and catechetical ministries of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, as enumerated in its Bylaws.

The Board is responsible for recommending policies to the Cardinal and for setting the general standards, goals, and objectives pertaining to the educational mission of the Church, as well as reviewing the implementation and evaluation the effectiveness of such policies. The Board reviews plans for new schools and is consulted on important issues in the area of education.

The Cardinal authorizes the policies and the Board circulates them to be implemented by the directors of archdiocesan offices reporting to the Archdiocesan Board of Education.
