Education and Formation

In this section, you can learn more about the ministries that form the faith of children, youth and adults in the Archdiocese. The following web pages also provide details on our religious education programs that reach Catholics of all ages.

Office of Continuing Christian EducationThe Office of Continuing Christian Education trains and supports faith formation for children, youth and adults. This Office assists leaders in parishes and schools in furthering the evangelizing mission of a family-oriented, multicultural Church. The CCE Office provides services to promote lifelong formation so that each person's faith becomes living, conscious and active.

Deaf MinistryThe Deaf Ministry Office seeks to serve all of the deaf in the Archdiocese through Sunday Masses in American Sign language, CCE classes, adult religious education classes, home and hospital visits, interpreted Masses, weddings and funerals.

EvangelizationThe Evangelization Commission is responsible for advocating evangelization within the Archdiocese and developing the local Church's evangelization initiatives.

EcumenismThe emphasis of this ministry is to help educate the Catholic faithful to the Church's ecumenical and interfaith efforts and to facilitate the Catholic Church's presence and theology to religious entities in the Houston area.

The School of Environmental EducationThe School of Environmental Education offers a supplemental education program to the parochial schools of the area. Students experience of God's gift of nature while studying life cycles, food chains, conservation of resources and more.

Catholic Committees on ScoutingThe Catholic Committees on Scouting provide continued education in the Catholic faith using the Scout Law and Scout Oath as an opportunity to earn a religious award as a result of their involvement in the faith.

St. Mary Seminary

St. Mary Seminary, established in 1901, exists for the personal, spiritual, academic and pastoral preparation of men for the Roman Catholic priesthood. Candidates for the diocesan priesthood reside at St. Mary Seminary and are involved in an extensive program of priestly formation, based on the Program of Priestly Formation of the U.S. Catholic Bishops.

The University of St. ThomasThe Archdiocese's only Catholic university.

Office of VocationsThe Vocations Office encourages the community's awareness and support of vocations to priesthood and religious life. It promotes a general climate favorable to Church vocations and strives to increase the quality and number of Archdiocesan priests.
