Fr. Joe Perez, a native Houstonian and priest from the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, has devoted the last 30 years of his life to the Guatemalan people, working as a missionary in their midst. His parish is located on the outskirts of Guatemala City. One of his main priorities is working with the local youth. For this purpose, Fr. Joe has founded a learning institution, Experimental Institute Ciudad Quetzal, where vocational skills are taught.

We are starting a new academic year!

At the elementary level we will be implementing Centers of Interest. We have converted a classroom into a hands-on laboratory for the children. Presently, there are eight different Centers where sessions will last several weeks, and which will be implemented throughout the school year.

At the secondary level, we are integrating science, social studies and math. Four days a week, the students will have 3-1/2 hours every day to work on different projects planned with their input.

We are starting this academic year with much hope and excitement. May yours be also one of hope and new life.

Fr. Joe Francisco Pérez
Program Coordinator
