Catechetical Leadership Institute

The Catechetical Leadership Institute (CLI) is a two year program for those who have taken BFCL (or its equivalent) and are currently serving in catechetical ministry. One year of study is dedicated to theological areas while the other year is designed to hone the skills necessary for the ministry of a catechetical leader. Classes meet for full days, once a month at St. Dominic Center.

Who Should Take CLI

Catechetical leaders with practical experience who desire advanced formation as professional parish directors of religious education. In addition, all applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Have full Catechist Certification or it's equivalent
  • Completed BFCL or an equivalent leadership formation process
  • Have two written recommendations (one must be from the pastor)
  • Be willing to complete all sessions, assignments and activities
  • Engage in an interview with program coordinator
  • Participate in a Practicum Process

Program Outcomes

Participants will develop an understanding of the Code of Ethics for Professional Catechetical Ministers affirmed by NCCL. Many of the skills needed to minister in an inclusive, multicultural church and diocese will be enhanced by participating in the practicum process and networking with catechetical leaders of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. You will also benefit from 60 hours of undergraduate level theological study covering the areas recommended in Co-Workers in the Vineyard of the Lord. This two year formation process will allow you to achieve the competencies necessary to function as a Parish Catechetical Leader.

In November of 2005, the Office of Continuing Christian Education received approval from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Commission on Certification and Accreditation (USCCB/CCA), located at 3211 South Lake Drive, Suite 317, St. Francis, WI 53235-3702; 414.496.0139, www.usccbcca.org ; to grant national certification to those Parish Catechetical Leaders who have completed CLI and been invited to enter into the application process.
